Blogging 2.0 -- A new structure for this blog
I have mentioned some changes I want to make to this blog, here is a short post to describe the way forward.
In my coaching practice I have found that many of my clients share common challenges. People want to have an impact in their work lives but often are so busy working that they don't have the time to get better at how they do their work. This is less about job-specific skills but instead around what are often referred to as "soft skills."
Soft skills mostly relate to communication skills, but include such items as teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and productivity. Many clients request both consulting to learn and then the accountability that coaching provides to develop and practice their new skills.
I spend a lot of time researching these focus areas to make sure that I provide the best ideas and tools available. Just as I have found with my deep study on productivity, there are some universal truths on techniques and also some unique ideas that have not (yet) gotten wide visibility. I also add my insights based on my work with my clients and my own observations.
That is where the reset of this blog comes in. Going forward, each month will have a topic area related to issues that I see in my coaching practice or are requested by the readers of this blog. Each month will have multiple short blog posts. These will introduce the topic area and provide some fresh ideas, identify references for further research and reading, or share questions that have helped coach clients through challenges. Each post will include a specific action to help you develop and improve your skills. By following along through a month's posts, you will have the opportunity to expand your impact in all areas of your life.
This will all kick off in June so I can do some additional research on topics. Until then, I welcome suggestions via email on challenges you are facing.
